Cosmetology

Program Information:

The Cosmetology program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for a career in the beauty industry. It focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration. The content includes effective communication, leadership skills, human relations and employability skills; safe and efficient work practices; Florida cosmetology law and rules; and acquisition of knowledge of the cosmetology industry.
A student completing the Cosmetology program is prepared to take the state licensing exam for cosmetology. Upon successfully passing the state exam, the student is eligible for employment as a licensed Cosmetologist.

Course Offerings:

The cosmetology program is a 3 to 4 year program. 1200 contact hours are required for completion.

Certifications:

Upon successful passing of the state exam, the student will be a fully state licensed Cosmetologist.

Highlights:

We participate in Skills USA. Skills USA is a Career and Technical Student Organization that provides leadership training and reinforces specific career and technical skills. Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) provide activities for students as an integral part of the instruction offered. Some of the activities are state and regional competitions among different high schools in the state of Florida. Students are able to showcase their talents and gain recognition.
