EXTENDED DAY
Director, Eddie Thompkins

OUR POLICIES

The purpose of the Extended Day Program is to provide a safe, pleasant, caring, and educationally enriching environment which serves to enhance the regular school program.

***Only currently enrolled students of the Extended Day program will be eligible to attend Extended Day on Early Release Days.

  1.       HOURS OF OPERATION

Our program offers before and after school care only on days when school is in session.  The morning session (6:45-8:15 a.m.) consists of informal group activities designed to ease the transition of the student into the regular school day.  The afternoon session (3:00 – 6:00 p.m., 1:45 - 6:00 on Early Release Days) provides a more formal, structured program of enrichment activities such as arts and crafts, computers, games, cooking, and physical activities.  Please limit inquiries to extended day hours when a director is on duty. Voice mail is available 24 hours a day at 630-6550, ext. 531.

2.       ELIGIBILITY

The Extended Day Program is specifically designed for children of working parents.

3. TUITION

Fees are as follows (per 20-day cycle):

A.M. Session (Grades K-5) $48.00
P.M. Session (Grades K -5) $88.00
Both A.M. and P.M. (Grades K - 5) $136.00

ALL FEES ARE PAYABLE BY THE MONTH ONLY.  PLEASE REFER TO THE CURRENT FEE PAYMENT SCHEDULE FOR DUE DATES.

 4. PAYMENT

Payment is due on or before the first day of each month.  Payment may be made in the school office between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Accounts not paid prior to 6:00 p.m. on the first day of the fee cycle are considered late and a $10 late fee will be assessed.  Nonpayment of fees is considered cause for dismissal from the program.

5.       HEALTH AND ILLNESS

Children who are ill should not remain in school, for their benefit as well as the benefit of others.  If a parent must go to work, provisions should be made for the comfort and welfare of the child away from the school.  If a child becomes ill or is injured during extended day, as during the regular school day, parents will be notified to pick up the child as soon as possible.

 6.       INSURANCE

Parents are encouraged to carry insurance which will cover their children in the event of an accident at school.  While student safety is our utmost concern, occasional accidents will happen.

 7.       NUTRITIONAL SNACKS

In keeping with guidelines issued by the Department of Child and Family Services, parents must furnish an afternoon snack for their child(ren) who participate in the afternoon session of the Extended Day Program.  It is important to pack a nutritious snack and to remind your child to save the snack for the afternoon session.  Parents will receive written notification when their child does not have his/her snack.

8.       CLOTHING AND PERSONAL BELONGINGS

All clothing and other personal belongings should be clearly marked with the child’s name.  Articles should be large enough for the child to put on without assistance, and clothing appropriate for active play should be worn.  Toys and games should be left at home.

9.       ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE

Children will not be permitted to enter the building prior to 6:45 a.m.  All children are to be picked up no later than 6:00 p.m.  A late fee of $1.00 per minute will be charged for students picked up late (after 6:00 p.m.).  The late fee applies to each individual and is not based on a family rate.  CHRONIC LATE PICK-UPS OR EARLY DROP-OFFS WILL BE CONSIDERED CAUSE FOR DISMISSAL FROM THE PROGRAM.  Please be considerate of our staff in following these times except in the case of extreme emergency.  If a parent will be late, it is his / her responsibility to notify the office as soon as possible.

Children will not be permitted to depart with anyone who does not present proper identification.  Parents or other authorized adults must come into the office and sign the Extended Day Program log in order to pick up children.  If arrangements which are out of the ordinary have been made for a particular day, please send a note.  Verbal messages from children cannot be accepted.

If your child will not be staying for the afternoon session, please notify the office in writing.  Children who have not reported to their Extended Day group by 3:15 p.m. will be paged.  If there is no response, the student sign-out log will be checked.  If the child has not been signed out from school, parents will be called to notify them of their child’s absence from the Extended Day Program.

10. STUDENT DISCIPLINE AND RULES

The same standards which are enforced during the regular school day will be enforced during the Extended Day Program.  students are expected to demonstrate respect toward their peers and adults through their actions and words.  Input from parents concerning circumstances at home that may affect a child’s behavior is welcomed.  Conduct warnings for disciplinary reasons will be given as follows:

11. WITHDRAWAL FROM THE PROGRAM

A written notice, a minimum of one week in advance, is required if it becomes necessary to withdraw your child from the Extended Day Program. Withdrawal from school does not automatically withdraw a student from  extended day. Re-enrollment after a child has been withdrawn will be based upon space available.  If a child re-enrolls, the enrollment information must be updated.  Refunds will be given only if the proper advance notice has been given in writing to the Extended Day supervisor.  Additional prorated fees for the length of time enrolled may also be due upon withdrawal.  Withdrawal from the program in no way eradicates responsibility for payment for services rendered.
