Tips for
success for new high school students
1. Know Your Goals.
Set realistic goals
and be flexible in your plan to reach those
goals. Remember, your GPA accumulates until
graduation. Know where you stand at all
times.
2. Ask Questions.
Classmates, teachers, counselors and parents
are your greatest source for information and
clarification.
3. Make Contacts.
Keep four to five classmates’ phone ande-mail
information in case you need help after
school hours. Also, e-mail teachers if you
have questions.
4. Stay organized.
Color coding class materials, using a
planner and taking notes for each class in a
separate notebook or spiral notebook can
make all the difference between passing and
failing.
5. Get Involved.
Clubs, sports, church organizations,
volunteer work and employment are all part
of getting accepted into college. These
activities help you to keep stress down and
to enjoy high school while still focusing on
your grades.
6. Know Your Resources.
Your school’s Web site is a valuable listing
of information and resources when you don’t
know where to turn. Also, ask your school
counselor for help. Counselors can provide
you with information about tutoring
services, grade recovery, personal issues,
family issues and much more.
