center INFORMATION
Vision
The vision of the Darnell-Cookman Middle/High School Media Center is
to support the teachers and students by providing access to current,
adequate, and appropriate information resources, and to ensure that all
students, teachers, and staff are effective users of ideas and
information.

Services
- Provide instruction in the use of the library resources,
materials and equipment.
- Provide help with assignments and projects.
- Provide recreational reading and interest materials.
- Provide a welcoming place for study and reading.
Resources
- Over 10,000 books for student and teacher use.
- A reference collection to use for research including
encyclopedias, atlases, dictionaries, almanacs and general reference
on many of your classroom subjects.
- Graphic novels, books for easy reading, folk tales, and
paperbacks.
- Career and college materials.
- Health & Wellness materials.
- Access to subscription databases for research and high quality
information.
- Fourteen computers with Internet access, online catalog, and
Microsoft Office Professional 2007 all connected to a network
printer
- A Xerox machine with copies for 10 cents per page.
Hours of Operation
Monday through Friday
8:00 am to 3:30 pm
During lunch with a pass from a teacher
Procedures
- All students may check out books. Your names are in the computer
already; however, if you have your ID card, checking out books
is much easier and speedier.
- You may check out up to two books at a time. Please allow
time to check out your books. If you wait until the end of the
period, you may be late for class.
- The check out period is two weeks. However, you may renew
books after two weeks.
- Overdue fines are 5 cents per day.
- If you have an overdue book, you may not check out additional
materials until the overdue books are returned or paid for.
- To use a computer you must logon with your own username and
password. Your user name
is the letter s followed by your eight digit student number.
Your password is the last four digits of your social security number
(if you do not have a social security number on record with the
school system then your password is the last four digits of your ID
number.
Rules
- Enter the media center quietly and in an orderly manner.
- During class time, you must enter the media center with a pass
from your teacher and specific work to complete. Show the pass to
the media specialist.
- Do not bring any food or drinks into the media center.
- Speak quietly at all times in the media center.
- Before using a computer, you must show the media specialist your
ID with computer clearance.
- All items taken from the media center must be checked out.
