The School and Community

Ed White High School is located in the heart of west Jacksonville. Our school is comprised of 1924 student grades 9 – 12 and 104 faculty members. Ed White is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. 26 faculty members hold a Masters Degree or higher. 58% of our students receive free or reduced lunch and 18% of our students have learning or physical disabilities.

A/B Block w/Skinny

Ed White operates on a hybrid schedule. Students are enrolled in eight concurrently running courses. On A days students attend 1st, 3rd, and 4th for 90 minutes each and a 2nd and 8th for 45 mins. B day they attend 5th, 6th, 7th, and then 2nd and 8th again.

Ed White IB Program

Edward H. White High School is an candidate school* for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that this school believes is important for our students. *Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) as IB World Schools can offer any of its three academic programs: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme. Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IBO and its programmes, visit http://www.ibo.org. Authorization expected in Spring 2012.

 

Promotion Requirements

To 10th 5 credits including 1 English or 1 Math

To 11th 12 credits including 2 English and 2 Math and\or 2 Science

To 12th 18 credits including 3 English and 4 Math and/or Science and a 1.5 GPA

Graduation Requirements

(Seniors graduating in 2011-2012)

All graduates must demonstrate “minimum competency” in Mathematics and/or Science, and Reading based on End of Course Exams (EOCs) or the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). In addition, 24 credits are required with an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.

4 Science including Bio and 2 Physical Sciences (Earth Space Sci, Chemistry, or Physics)

A (90 – 100)    Excellent                       4.0

B (80 – 89)      Above Average            3.0

Class Rankings

The final ranking for seniors is calculated at the completion of the senior year. All students, excluding 18 credit diploma option students, shall be ranked 4 times.  Honors, Dual Enrollment, and Advanced Placement courses are weighted in the calculation of the GPA
