Book Award Programs

Ortega participates in
the following book award
programs:
Sunshine State Young
Reader’s Award Program (SSYRA) Grades
3-5
Students continue to
participate in a
statewide reading
motivation program
sponsored by the Florida
Department of Education
and the Florida
Association for Media in
Education. The purpose
of this program is to
encourage students to
read for fun and
personal satisfaction
and to introduce them to
some high interest
contemporary literature.
Students who read at
least 3 of these books
are eligible to vote for
their favorite. Votes
from students from all
over the state are
tabulated and the author
of the winning book
receives this award.

Florida Reading Association (FRA) Children’s Book Award (Grades K-2)
The Media Specialist will read the following 8 books selected by the Florida Reading Association to the students in grades K-2 during media skills classes. When all the books have been read, students will vote for their favorite book and receive a treat. Vote tallies will be sent to the FRA and the author who receives the most votes from the children from across the state will receive the FRA Children’s Book Award. The 8 titles are:
