Students receive music training
once a week that includes:
- Singing on pitch,
- Reading rhythm patterns
- Playing a variety of percussion instruments
- Playing Orff instruments
Note-reading is encouraged
during keyboard units in all grades and with recorder playing
in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Recognizing instrument families and
their qualities, as well as learning about various composers,
are included in the training method.
Chorus
is offered to interested students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Students
may audition to join and will participate in numerous performances
in and out of school.
Pine
Forest School of the Arts is selected as a "Symphony School".
The
Jacksonville Symphony sponsors numerous programs for our
students including the Youth Concerts for our 4th and 5th graders,
Prelude Concerts for our 2nd and 3rd graders and the Tiny Tots
Concert for our Kindergarten and 1st grade students. Ensembles
from the symphony are sent to our school to demonstrate families
of instruments for a close-up view.
