 Music

Terri Wester, Instructor

Students receive music training once a week that includes:

  • Singing on pitch,
  • Reading rhythm patterns
  • Playing a variety of percussion instruments
  • Playing Orff instruments

Note-reading is encouraged during keyboard units in all grades and with recorder playing in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Recognizing instrument families and their qualities, as well as learning about various composers, are included in the training method.

Chorus is offered to interested students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Students may audition to join and will participate in numerous performances in and out of school.

Pine Forest School of the Arts is selected as a "Symphony School".

The Jacksonville Symphony sponsors numerous programs for our students including the Youth Concerts for our 4th and 5th graders, Prelude Concerts for our 2nd and 3rd graders and the Tiny Tots Concert for our Kindergarten and 1st grade students. Ensembles from the symphony are sent to our school to demonstrate families of instruments for a close-up view.
