Who can participate in strings? Anyone in grades 3 - 5.

Is there an academic requirements. A minimum grade average of "C" must be maintained. Probation followed by dismissal will occur if Academic requirements are not met. Students are responsible for missed class work during their Strings class. Musicians need to be sharp

Do I have to know how to play an instrument or read music. NO! In Beginning Strings, we start as if you know nothing about music. We teach the basics of music reading along with the skills to play an instrument. We use the opening weeks to help each student select the instrument that suits them best.

Do I have to buy an instrument? No, we have school instruments for you to rent. There are other sources outside of school, but we provide the most cost effective rental.

How much does it cost? There are 2 Fees: (1) $35 for the maintenance of school instruments. Private instruments are exempt from this fee. (2) $25 Activity Fee for uniform upkeep & Pine Forest String T-Shirt. The T-Shirts serve as an informal uniform for various events and are kept by the students. (This fee is only $20.00 if paid by end of the 1st 9 weeks.)

There is an additional cost for the music book and document wallet.

Can I rent an instrument for the summer? Yes, see Mr Coleman for details, there is a $15 summer rental fee.

What do I do if I break my instrument? Report any damage to the school immediately. Mr Coleman has an established liaison with local repair shops for the least expensive rates.

Do Beginners play in concerts? Yes, all Strings students will play in at least two concerts per year.

Who do you recommend for private lessons? Please see the link in the menu at the left for information on private lessons.

What are the requirements to make the Advance Class? Students must be able to play the following:

#81 Michael Row Your Boat
#86 Ode to Joy
#89 Bile em’ Cabbage
#92 Can Can
#188 Cripple Creek
#192 Simple Gifts

183–187, the D, G & C major scales & arpeggios.

Students passing all of the above plus

#168 / #128 / #132 / #155 / #174

are eligible for the advanced class.
