A School of High Expectations

San Mateo Elementary School is a special place for learning that holds high expectations for all students; this is because we believe they can live up to them.  We foster academic excellence by emphasizing basic subjects, enrichment and real-life experiences.  It is this foundation that prepares students for success in advanced studies.  We combine stimulating teaching strategies, hands-on learning and exploration to create a total learning experience for all of our students.

The Accelerated Magnet Concept

The Accelerated Academy Magnet program at San Mateo starts with the belief that all children can perform well when treated as gifted and talented students.  Instead of using remediation, which slow student progress, we enhance academic growth through challenging and stimulating learning experiences.  In addition, we identify and build on the individual strengths of each child.  We believe that the powerful learning students experience in our program encourages each child to reach his or her full potential - intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically.  We use a variety of teaching techniques to foster a love of learning and independent thinking.

Broad Participation

San Mateo is a community school in the fullest sense of the expression.  We encourage the full participation of students, parents, staff, and the community at large.  This is because we believe every voice has value in the educational experience.  The entire school community works together towards a common purpose by meeting, talking, and learning from each other's ideas.
