About Alison Watson
Ms. Watson teaches her class that they are all members of a team, “The Brilliant Beetles,” and that they must work together to ensure success for each member. She incorporates reading into each subject, often beginning math and science lessons with a poem or book, and sends two books home each night with her students. She believes that reading is contagious and her students have gotten the bug. Parents often comment that they never thought their kindergartner would be “so into reading.” “My role as a teacher is to provide universal, high-quality and equal education for all the students who cross the threshold of my classroom door. I must tirelessly, purposefully, strategically and passionately pour my heart and soul into my daily instruction, for I hold part of the country’s future in my hands.”
“Can you imagine entering the kitchen of a master chef and observing the blending of a myriad of magical ingredients together to create a supreme delicacy? That’s what you will see when you visit Alison’s class! Every morning she dons an apron with the design dependent on what the students will be doing that day. But it isn’t the apron that evokes the analogy between this teacher and a master chef, it is the way she blends the myriad of teaching strategies to insure that every student in her room is successful. There are no fallen soufflés here, no bitter sauces and most of all, no orders sent back to the kitchen!”
