Coach Buyno  (P.E.)

My name is Mary Buyno or as the children say, "Coach B." I've been a physical education teacher in Duval county for the last 27 years.  I came to Abess Park in 1997 when it first opened with just grass and dirt as our playground.  We began building our "field of dreams" with the help of many people who have hearts of gold.  We first built the playground equipment and then we added the picnic tables and benches. We got them covered for shade and then began the three year process of building the track and soccer field.  We hope to be adding more this year and next with your support.
I've been honored to be selected as Teacher of the Year at Seabreeze elementary, West Jacksonville Elementary, and Abess Park Elementary schools.  I am so very proud to have been the very FIRST  Teacher of the Year at Abess Park!
I've grown up in the beaches community and still live there.  I attended Fletcher , FCCJ, and graduated from FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY (GO NOLES!)

I've played sports throughout my lifetime and during college on scholarships.  I enjoy softball and volleyball the most.

My favorite pastimes are cheering for my Seminoles and enjoying my high school friendship and organizing my high  school reunions.

Ms. Lechwar (Autistic Speech Teacher)

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology.  I worked for 2 years at Pinedale Elementary serving children with hearing impairments, autism, varying exceptionalities and regular education.  I was nominated for New Teacher of the Year award in 1991 and served as PTA president in 1992.  I then went to the University of South Florida to earn my masters degree in Speech Language Pathology.  After receiving my C's (Certificate of Clinical Competence) I worked at several rehabilitation and nursing facilities.  I then got a job at the Life Care Center of Orange Park as the Director of Speech and Language Services.  I was blessed with a son named Andrew in 1997 who was born with a congenital heart defect called Tetrallogy of Fallot.  I had to leave my position and I gladly stayed home with him.  He had successful open heart surgery at 4 months and he is still very healthy.  After Andrew recovered I worked for Brook's Rehabilitation at San Pablo with pediatric through geriatric clients for over 2 years.  I then became a full-time room mom and volunteer at my son's school until coming to Abess Park 3 years ago.  I love my job here because of the phenomenal kids, the amazing teachers, the supportive parents and the wonderful staff here at Abess.  Go Jaguars!
