The Duval County School Board does not offer a traditional Summer School for the purpose of academic promotion for students who have been retained.   It is important for parents and students to be aware of and participate in the Safety Net programs that have been established by Abess Park to help those students in need of remediation to avoid being retained.  Below is a list of some of those Safety Net programs that are currently offered by Abess Park, although parents should contact their child's teacher for a complete and comprehensive listing of Safety Net programs.

The purpose of the Safety Net programs is to allow students the opportunity to "catch up" with their peers as quickly as possible to avoid retention.  Abess Park wants students to remain in and experience success in their regular classroom.  The success of the Safety Net program is judged by the extent of lowest achieving students reaching high standards.  The first and most important Safety Net is the one parents can help with the at home, attendance.  Students must be in school to learn.
