This six member team, representing all of the schools competing in The Superintendent's Academic Challenge competed in the Commissioner's Academic Challenge, a competition among 51 school districts in Florida. Duval County competed in Group I, 16  large districts, and last won in 1997. The competition was held from April 26, through April 28, 2001 at The Contemporary Resort Convention Center at Walt Disney World, in Orlando, Florida.

The team placed 2nd in the initial round on Thursday, behind Marion County.  This advanced them straight to the semifinals on Saturday morning.  In that semifinal, the guys placed second behind Escambia, but that was enough to move them to the Division 1 finals on Saturday afternoon.  The results are:

Palm Beach 253 1st
Escambia 139
Polk 154
Duval 173 3rd
Pinellas 120
Seminole 194 2nd

The team is coached by Mr. Andy Scudder, of Mandarin High School, and Mrs. Judy Shearer, of Sandalwood High School.

A member of the winning team in each group will be selected for  Team Florida and will represents our state in the National Panasonic Academic Challenge in June, in the same location.  Josh Wills, of Mandarin High School was on Team Florida in 1997.
