“Brain Brawl in the duval ”
Duval County’s Academic Challenge
www.duvalschools.org/acadcomp
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving Holiday and are excited to be back in the swing of things. I wanted to update you on our progress since our last meeting.
Here are the results of our Coaches’ Survey. As you can see, television exposure and new questions top the list, while the state competition trails. There is no consensus on rewards for all participants. Updates on TV and Questions are below.

Our 19-team field is set and positioned in double-elimination brackets that can be found online at http://www.duvalschools.org/acadcomp/2008/bracket.asp. I have also attached a printer-friendly version. The complete schedule can also be found online at http://www.duvalschools.org/acadcomp/2008/schedule.asp. We are still waiting for the exact room numbers for these matches and will update this information asap.
I have been researching getting new questions and identified 5 companies that sell quiz bowl questions. 2 of them are unable to serve us at this time, and 1 has a mixed reputation. For the remaining two, Vendor D and E, I have attached some sample questions for your review. I could possibly get questions in for next week’s matches, where we could test them during field day, or we could use our old questions for field days and then switch in January. If you have an opinion on the timing or vendor, let me know as soon as possible.
I have made an unsuccessful attempt to contact Channel 4 and I should receive a call back from Channel 7 today. I will keep you posted on progress.
If possible, please fax (390.2614) or email me rosters for your team before the matches on 12/3.
Thanks for making Brain Brawl a “Competition with High IQ: Integrity and Quality!”
