“Brain Brawl in the duval ”
Duval County’s Academic Challenge
www.duvalschools.org/acadcomp
Thanks to all the teachers and students who made our first Field Day such fun. I hope our veterans were happy to be back at it again and the rookies, like me, learned a lot and enjoyed it. By all accounts, things went smoothly and look bright for our future. A special thanks to George Bennett, Tom Welsh, and Coaches Matt Schnippert and Stephen Rodgers who served as moderators.
· Brackets and Schedule
Our 18-team field was set and positioned in double-elimination brackets that can be found online at http://www.duvalschools.org/acadcomp/2008/bracket.asp. The complete schedule can also be found online at http://www.duvalschools.org/acadcomp/2008/schedule.asp.
The matches on 12/10 will still be held at 3:30 and 4:30pm as printed; however beginning 1/7 the matches will be at 4pm and 5pm, and the website will soon reflect this.
· Moderators Needed!
George Bennet and Stephen Rodgers have volunteered to moderate at our upcoming Field Day on December 10. However, we still need two more moderators for both the 3:30 and 4:30 matches. If you are willing and able, or know someone who is, please contact me immediately.
· New Questions
Thanks for you input on the two vendors that will supply our new questions beginning in January. Vendor E was preferred by those who expressed an opinion. I will order from this vendor and we will begin using their questions January 7.
· Junior Varsity
Don’t forget that JV matches will be held Saturdays January 26 and February 9 from 8am-12pm at Wolfson High School. We are welcoming Forrest High School and their new coach Patsy Davis to Brain Brawl! Please make FHS welcome.
· Location and TV Exposure
We are talking with DASOTA, F.H. Peterson, and WJCT about hosting Brain Brawl. WJXT Channel 4 and Comcast are also talking with us about airing the programs. I will continue to keep you posted on the progress.
Thanks for making Brain Brawl a “Competition with High IQ: Integrity and Quality!”
