Courses For students entering grade 9 for the first time in 2007-2008 and thereafter
English 4 credits (include writing

requirements appropriately

rigorous – not just a literature course)

Mathematics 4 high school math credits taken in middle or high school in 2007-2008 or thereafter

1 Algebra I – required (MS/HS)

1 geometry – required (MS/HS)

1 Algebra II – required (HS only)

1 additional math (HS only)

Science 4 credits

1 biology

2 physical sciences

(chemistry, physics , earthspace)

[two must have lab component]

1 additional science

Social Studies 3 credits

1 world history

1 American history

½ American government

½ economics

World Language* 2 high school credits taken in middle or high school from 2007-2008 or thereafter which include two courses in the same language

Students who have been required to take 3 years of Intensive Reading in high school may be exempt from this requirement through a waiver process

Practical Career

Fine Arts

1 credit performing fine arts or a state-approved practical arts
Physical Education 1 credit H.O.P.E.

State Assessment Requirements earn passing scores on the FCAT

(grade 10) Reading/Math, OR the state End Of Course Exams (EOCs) if applicable

For students entering ninth grade for the first time in 2010-2011 a Level 3 will be required on the 10th Grade Reading FCAT

Grade Point Average Requirements (GPA) earn a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
