Summer Reading

Driving to school is a privilege. In order for a student to drive to school and park in the school parking lot, he or she must follow state laws regarding the operation of the vehicle, have a valid Florida Class E Operator's License (NOT A LEARNER'S PERMIT),
and submit a completed 2012-2013 parking application.

With the application, the following documents will need to be submitted:

  1. A copy of the student's valid Class E driver's license (not a permit).
  2. A copy of proof of valid Florida insurance for the registered vehicle.
  3. A copy of the current Florida Vehicle Registration form.
  4. $20.00 cash

The application needs to be signed by a custodial parent and the student.

A student's driving privileges and parking permit can be revoked without a refund for violations of the parking regulations or as a result of Code of Conduct violations such as, but not limited to, leaving school without permission (alone or with another person).
No decal will be replaced unless the old decal, or a large portion of it, is brought in to the Main Office.  Vehicles parked on school property are under the jurisdiction of the school.  The school reserves the right to search any vehicle if reasonable cause exists to do so.  Students have full responsibility for the security of their vehicles and will make certain they are locked and their keys are not given to others.  Students will be held responsible for any prohibited objects or substances, such as alcohol, drugs, and weapons that are found in their cars and will be subject to disciplinary action.  Searches of vehicles may be conducted at any time there is reasonable cause to do so, with or without presence of the student.

Please note that Atlantic Coast High School expects students to adhere with State law regarding driving vehicles onto the ACHS campus.

From the DMVFLORIDA.ORG Website:

"If you are moving to Florida, the state's law requires that you register a vehicle within 10 days after engaging in an occupation in Florida or enter a child in a Florida school. You need to first obtain a Florida drivers license. Next you need to obtain auto insurance from a company licensed in Florida."

"Florida law requires that you get a Florida drivers license within 30 days of becoming a resident of Florida."

Please note the age restrictions as stated by the Florida DMV:

"Drivers under 18 with a Class E (Operator) license have restrictions as follows:

"16 Year olds cannot drive from 11pm to 6am unless accompanied by a 21 year old licensed driver or driving to and from work

"17 Year olds cannot drive from 1am to 5am unless accompanied by a 21 year old licensed driver or driving to and from work

"Always remember that you can NEVER Drive Alone with a Learners Permit in Florida You must always have a licensed driver in the seat closest to you."
