Title: 3. PUBLIC HEARING: Boundary Change- Pine Forest Elementary School # 159
Requested Action:
That the Board conduct a public hearing pursuant to Chapter 120, Florida Statute, regarding the recommended boundary change for Pine Forest Elementary School No. 159 at the end of the 2004/05 school year and the reassignment of the students to San Jose Elementary School No. 83.
Summary Explanation and Background:
Pine Forest Elementary School currently serves as a performing arts magnet school for zones 1 and 7. Over 60% of the enrollment at Pine Forest are magnet students. This proposal would convert Pine Forest to a dedicated performing arts magnet school continuing to serve zones 1 and 7. The current Pine Forest attendance area would be redistricted to San Jose Elementary School. San Jose Elementary is located just less than 2 miles from Pine Forest Elementary and is currently at 56% of its capacity.
Children who live in the current Pine Forest attendance area who wish to remain at Pine Forest would apply for magnet status and be accepted under the Priority 1 rule. There are approximately 177 students who live in the Pine Forest attendance area and currently attend Pine Forest ES.
