Title: MATH AND SCIENCE PARTNERSHIP (MSP)
Requested Action:
- APPROVE SUBMISSION OF A MATH AND SCIENCE PARTNERSHIP (MSP) GRANT PROPOSAL IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $35,000,000 OVER A FIVE-YEAR PERIOD.
- UPON NOTIFICATION OF AWARD, APPROVE ACCEPTANCE OF THESE GRANT FUNDS AND THEIR BUDGETING IN THE APPROPRIATE PART IV, SPECIAL REVENUE BUDGET RESOLUTION; AND APPROVE ANY AMENDMENTS REQUIRED TO FULLY IMPLEMENT THIS GRANT.
Summary Explanation and Background:
The MSP grant program seeks to improve student outcomes in mathematics and science among all students at PreK-12 levels. As the achievement of students rises, the MSP expects to make significant reductions in achievement gaps in mathematics and science education among diverse student populations.
This grant is offered by the National Science Foundation and builds upon the foundations established in Duval County. MSP will build upon DCPS' Best Practices in, but not limited to: Jacksonville’s Urban Systemic Initiative (JUSI), JU’s field-based program, DCPS’ Standards-based Education, Stigler's Model of lesson design, UNF’s Professional Development Schools and UF’s Opportunity Alliance.
Partnerships must be formed with Institutes of Higher Education (IHE) with shared goals, shared responsibilities, and shared accountability. DCPS will have Core partners and supportive partners. Core partners will include University of Florida, University of North Florida, Edward Waters College, and Jacksonville University.
The deadline is January 7, 2003.
