Summary Explanation and Background:
The purpose of this grant program is to enhance, improve, or develop collaborative efforts between school-based service systems and mental health service systems to provide prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services to students. It is also intended to enhance crisis intervention services, provide training, offer technical assistance to families, and ensure linguistically appropriate and culturally competent services for students who need mental health assistance. Community mental health partners for this grant proposal are the Children’s Crisis Center, the Child Guidance Center, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and Hospice of Northeast Florida.
The 18-month grant program will serve all schools in the district. Its primary focus is to establish procedural protocols that will allow prompt, effective, and timely mental health services for students through an informed collaboration among all partner agencies. It is also intended to improve data collection efforts and to establish a single point of contact for schools in crisis.
