Title: 19. COMPONENT RECOMMENDATION FOR APPROVAL AND ADDITION TO DISTRICT MASTER INSERVICE PLAN

Requested Action:

1.  APPROVE THE ADDITION OF A COMPREHENSIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR NON-CERTIFICATED PERSONNEL AND 43 COMPONENTS, ALONG WITH 7 ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS FOR THE DUVAL COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM’S DISTRICT MASTER INSERVICE PLAN, AS OUTLINED IN THE ATTACHMENT.

 

  1. AUTHORIZE THE BOARD CHAIRMAN AND THE SUPERINTENDENT TO AFFIX THEIR SIGNATURES TO THE FIVE YEAR MASTER PLAN FOR INSERVICE EDUCATION, WHICH MUST BE SIGNED AND SUBMITTED TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION BY OCTOBER 1, 2005.

Summary Explanation and Background:

The OPPAGA audit of the Duval County Public School System resulted in the following recommendation as outlined by Florida School Laws, Part V Professional Development – 1012.98 School Community Professional Development Act; Section 4 :( b) 4 states, “Include a master plan for in-service activities, pursuant to rules of the State Board of Education, for all district employees from all fund sources”.  The Comprehensive Professional Development Plan for the Non-certificated Personnel has been written to meet the needs of our Non-certificated staff and to satisfy the OPPAGA recommendations and requirements according to FS 1012.98.

 

The components shown on the attachments as additions to the district’s Master In-service Plan are recommended for approval. The recommendations are in response to staff requests and are designed to enhance the effectiveness of various programs. The recommendations and offerings are aligned with the Sunshine State Standards and district initiatives. They also reflect changes of component's names, and/or new or existing component numbers.

 

There are a total of fifty (50) components being recommended for approval. Forty Three (43) are for the Comprehensive Non-certificated Professional

Development Plan and seven (7) are for Literacy.

 

A description of each component is attached which includes the general objective, specific objectives, description of activities, delivery methods, follow-up methods and evaluation criteria. The complete Master In-service Plan is available for review in the School Board Office, 1701 Prudential Drive, Jacksonville, Florida 32207.

 

Upon approval of this item by the School Board, verification will be forwarded to the Florida Department of Education no later than October 1, 2005.
