Title: 5. PLACEHOLDER - HEALTH INSURANCE RENEWAL

Requested Action:

RENEWAL OF HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM FOR THE YEAR OCTOBER 1, 2005 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 2006.

GRANT THE SUPERINTENDENT OR HER DESIGNEE THE AUTHORITY TO SIGN THE FINAL RENEWAL RATE STRUCTURE AND AGREEMENT CONTINGENT UPON APPROVAL BY THE INDIVIDUAL BARGAINING UNITS.

Summary Explanation and Background:

The Board provides a healthcare plan to all eligible, full time employees, retirees and their dependents.  Aetna, Inc., will provide coverage for the October 1, 2005, through September 30, 2006 contract year.  The District Insurance Committee, consisting of representative from the DTU, AFSCME, Maintenance and Supervisors Units, along with representatives from the principals, administrators and retirees, are continuing to negotiate the benefit rate structure to be established for the renewal contract period. 

This item allows the Superintendent to execute the renewal with Aetna once agreement is reached with the unions to expedite the enrollment process.
