Title: 1. EXPULSION OF M.E.
Requested Action:
HONOR THE EXPULSION OF M.E. FROM THE CLAY COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM AND REFUSE TO ALLOW M.E. TO BE ENROLLED IN ANY SCHOOL IN THE DUVAL COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT PURSUANT TO FLORIDA STATUTE 1006.07 (B) (3) .
Summary Explanation and Background:
M.E., a 14-year-old student, was expelled from Middleburg High School on November 22, 2005 for making threats to kill a school board employee (teacher). The expulsion was for the remainder of the 2005-06 school year and all of the 2006-07 school year.
M.E.’s disciplinary records indicate that, August 18 – October 6, 2005, he committed 12 Code of Student Conduct offenses in Clay County. The majority of these offenses consisted of defiance/disrespect with one incident of fighting. He also previously attended an alternative school while he was a student in Nassau County after he presented an extreme threat of violence.
M.E.’s mother is requesting permission to enroll M.E. in this school district. Section 1006.07 (B) (3) of the Florida Statutes gives the School Board the option of waiving the expulsion from the other district and enrolling the student or honoring the expulsion.
It is recommended that the School Board honor M.E.’s expulsion.
