AGENDA - General

Title: 5.  PUBLIC HEARING AND VOTE TO ADOPT POLICY JFA, TITLED ADMISSION PROCEDURES, SUBTITLED: MAXIMUM AGE FOR ENROLLMENT

Requested Action:
THAT THE DUVAL COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD CONDUCT A PUBLIC HEARING AND VOTE TO ADOPT POLICY JFA, TITLED: ADMISSION PROCEDURES, SUBTITLED: MAXIMUM AGE FOR ENROLLMENT

Summary Explanation and Background:

Florida Statute allows for a district school board to create policy regarding the maximum age of enrollment.  Duval County Schools has sought to work with programs such as Drop Back In to create credit recovery opportunities for over age students who have dropped out of school.  These students may be 20 or 21 years of age but have made a choice to complete their education.  Current policy would not allow them to remain in a credit recovery program if they were 21 years of age.

This policy would allow them to enroll in credit recovery programs which are held off site from comprehensive schools so that they are not on campus with traditional age students.

This policy was properly noticed under Chapter 120, Florida Statutes.
