Title: 4.  SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS' SALARY FOR 2006-2007

Requested Action:
THAT THE DUVAL COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD APPROVE THE BOARD MEMBERS' SALARY FOR 2006-2007 IN THE AMOUNT OF $40,098.00, IN ACCORDANCE WITH SCHOOL BOARD POLICY BDA, WHICH BASES THE BOARD MEMBERS' SALARY ON THE FORMULA SET FORTH IN CHAPTER 145 OF THE FLORIDA STATUTES.

Summary Explanation and Background:

The Duval County School Board's current salary is $38,643.00.  City Council Members' salary for 2006-2007 is $44,579.00, with the Council President receiving $59,438.00

Section 100.395, F.S., requires each district school board to determine the salary of its members each year during their first regular meeting following the November Organizational Meeting.  Salary recommendations are calculated in accordance with the formula for compensation of elected county constitutional officers set forth in Chapter 146, F.S.  The recommended salary amount is derived from a calculated base salary which is then adjusted by state certified district population data, a certified annual factor of 1.0346, and a state certified cumulative annual factor of 3.0588. 

The above recommended amount is based on the recommendation of the Florida School Boards Association (see Attachment), and is in accordance with School Board Policy BDA.  This salary would be effective as of December 5, 2006, for a period of twelve (12) months.
