Title: 1.  SELECTION OF W. E. (ED) PRATT-DANNALS AS SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

Requested Action:
THAT THE DUVAL COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD APPROVE THE SELECTION OF W. E. (ED) PRATT-DANNALS AS SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS, AND AUTHORIZE GENERAL COUNSEL'S OFFICE TO BEGIN THE PROCESS OF CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS.

Summary Explanation and Background:

On October 16 and 17, 2007, the Board and Dr. Joseph Wise ended their contractual relationship resulting in the vacancy of the Superintendent position.  The Board also named W. E. (Ed) Pratt-Dannals as Acting Superintendent during this interim period through a future date to be determined by the Board.  On October 29, 2007, the Board discussed it's options for selecting a new Superintendent and reached an informal consensus that W. E. (Ed) Pratt-Dannals be named as Superintendent rather than engaging in another external candidate search.

This recommendation will begin the process of appointing W. E. (Ed) Pratt-Dannals as our new Superintendent of Schools, and will authorize General Counsel's Office to begin the process of negotiating a contract.  The negotiated contract will be brought back to the Board for a vote.
