9. PLACEMENT HURRICANE GRANT: LANDMARK MIDDLE SCHOOL NO. 256 AND TWIN LAKES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NO. 251: Construction Contract Award

Requested Action:

THAT THE DUVAL COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD APPROVE A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AWARD TO THE LOWEST BIDDER, KANE MANUFACTURING CORPORATION, IN THE AMOUNT OF $336,342, ACCEPTING THE BASE BID, AND A BUDGET AMENDMENT RESOLUTION.

 

THAT THE DUVAL COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD AUTHORIZE THE CHAIRMAN AND THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS TO EXECUTE THE STANDARD FORM OF AGREEMENT FOR CONSTRUCTION WHEN FORM APPROVED BY THE OFFICE OF GENERAL COUNSEL.

Summary Explanation and Background:

The scope of this project is to furnish and install all Hurricane Shelter protection as required by the specifications at Landmark Middle School No. 256 and Twin Lakes Elementary No. 251.

 

Facilities Services Department staff opened bids on November 20, 2007.

 

This project was listed on the Board approved (Long Range Capital Outlay Plan Schedule) (Major Maintenance List) (Long Range Capital Outlay Plan Schedule and Major Maintenance List.

 

This bid has been reviewed by the Office of Minority Business Affairs and found to be in compliance with Duval County School Board Minority Business Enterprise requirements.

Const. Contract Amt. $336,342

The amount of this contract is within budgeted funds. The project is proceeding on schedule with a notice to proceed date of January 28, 2008, construction of 110 calendar days, and a substantial completion date of June 27, 2008.

The planned funding source for this project is federal grant.
