Title: STAFF REPORT ON MEDIA COVERAGE

Requested Action:
That staff make a presentation regarding media coverage, as appropriate, at the Board Meeting.

Summary Explanation and Background:

I have requested that the Superintendent give us feedback on the various press reports regarding our school district.  This report should include, but not be limited to, the following:

  1. Recognition of Excellence in Journalism, whether it is complimentary, critical, or public information focus.
  2. Recognition of coverage that warrants further review and consideration by the administration and/or Board leading to an opportunity for improvement.
  3. A review and report on stories where the presentations are factually incorrect and those that reflect misreporting and/or misperception.

The professionals who are committed to excellence in journalism will applaud this public record accountability and. obviously, those who may be engaged in Agenda Journalism, will find this uncomfortable.  Media accountability in the public record should be addressed and it will give us an opportunity to recognize those who are working hard to assist us in carrying out our responsibility to the community to provide the very best.

At the conclusion of the staff presentation, an opportunity will be available for Board members to comment on any area they deem appropriate, be it covered or not covered in the presentation.
