Title: DOE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLANS FOR CHALLENGED SCHOOLS
Requested Action:
APPROVE THE 2002-2003 SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLANS FOR THE CHALLENGED SCHOOLS USING THE REQUIRED DOE TEMPLATE.
Summary Explanation and Background:
The Florida State Board of Education has mandated that schools designated as “failing” at the end of the 2001-2002 school year shall complete a School Improvement Plan using a format designed by the Department of Education’s Office of School Improvement. The completed and approved plans must be submitted to the Office of School Improvement no later than October 1, 2002. In order to comply with the imposed due date, the plans have already been submitted pending approval by the Duval County School Board.
Both the DOE version of the School Improvement Plan and the Duval County version of the School Improvement Plan for each Challenged school were submitted to the appropriate Regional Superintendent for approval on September 6, 2002. In reviewing the plans, the Regional Superintendents verify alignment of both versions with District’s goals and targets.
The School Improvement Plans for all schools, including the challenged schools, using Duval County’s format, will be submitted for School Board approval in November 2002. Copies of the DOE School Improvement Plans are available for review, beginning September 25th, in the Research and Evaluation Office located on the 6th Floor of the School Board Administration Building.
