CONFIRM SUBMISSION OF PROJECT ASPIRE IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $130,000.
- UPON NOTIFICATION OF AWARD, APPROVE ACCEPTANCE OF THESE GRANT FUNDS AND THEIR BUDGETING IN THE APPROPRIATE PART I, GENERAL REVENUE BUDGET RESOLUTION; AND APPROVE ANY AMENDMENTS REQUIRED TO FULLY IMPLEMENT THIS GRANT.
Summary Explanation and Background:
The goal of this project is to help individuals obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent while participating in career and technical education and training. The grant is targeted toward students at risk of dropping out of high school, high school dropouts, and other individuals who are economically disadvantaged or in low wage jobs without a high school credential. The application deadline was June 30, 2003; the funding period is July 1, 2003 to June 30, 2004.
This application is being submitted by A. Phillip Randolph Academy for the nursing and construction career strands. The grant will target performance-based diploma (PBD) and Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students. The grant will provide students with opportunities to expand entry-level job skills through work with the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, HABIJAX, and long-term care facilities as part of the basic curriculum. It will expand job placement in the construction and health services area. Funds will be used for project activities such as classroom libraries, field trips, equipment, professional development, and substitutes.
