PERMISSION TO SUBMIT A REQUEST FOR WAIVER FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OF S.1012.22 (1)(b) F.S.

Requested Action:
THAT THE DUVAL COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD APPROVE SUBMISSION OF THE ATTACHED REQUEST TO WAIVE S.1012.22 (1)(b) F.S., ACTION ON NOMINATIONS, FOR THE 2002-2003 SCHOOL YEAR

Summary Explanation and Background:
Section 1012.22 (1)(b) F.S., requires school boards to act not later than three (3) weeks after the end of the regular legislative session OR May 31 whichever is later, on nominations and reappointments by the Superintendent for supervisors, principals, and members of the instructional staff.  Due to implementation of Appraisal/Plus, it is necessary to request a waiver from this provision in order to allow for a delay in reappointment for school-based administrators.  This will allow for completion of the assessment, which includes FCAT scores, and measurement of whether targets were successfully acheived.  The waiver requests the state to allow us to act on the reappointments for school-based administrators no later than June 30, 2003.
