ATTENDANCE AT THIS SPECIAL MEETING OF THE DUVAL COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD: All Board Members were present. Dr. Nancy Snyder, Chief of Staff, and Ms. Karen Chastain, Assistant General Counsel, were also present.

Call Meeting to Order

  1. CALL MEETING TO ORDER
    Minutes: The Chairman called the Special Board Meeting to order at 3:47 p.m.

    The Chairman asked if there were any members of the audience who wished to address the Board.

    Ms. Terry Forio, Malivai Washington Kids Foundation, addressed the Board regarding the magnet programs and that parents were confused and did not know they have a choice of neighborhood schools for traditional programs.

  1. SCHOOL GRADE CONFIGURATION CHANGES FOR TWO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
    Minutes: The Chairman shared information regarding a meeting the Board had this morning with the NAACP and the need for better communication. Chairman Broner also indicated that the Board looked forward to working more closely with the NAACP on issues in the future.

    Vice-Chairman Brenda Priestly Jackson talked about all community groups being involved and the need for a policy to make sure this happens in the future.

    Board Members agreed that meetings such as they had this morning should happen with every major issue facing the system.
