ATTENDANCE AT THIS WORKSHOP OF THE DUVAL COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD: All Board Members were present with the exception of Ms. Brenda Priestly Jackson. Mr. Ed Pratt-Dannals, Superintendent, was also present.

    Minutes: The Chairman called the Board Workshop to order at 10:00 a.m.

  1. KIPP
    Minutes: Mr. Ed Pratt-Dannals, Superintendent, updated the Board on what has happened with KIPP to date. We are now looking at a 2010 opening. Discussion included contributors who will fund the program; the fact that Teach for America teachers often end up teaching in KIPP schools; engaging DTU in the process, and that staff will bring something back to the Board in February 2008. Ms. Jane Vance, Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Partnerships, provided the Board with additional information.

    Minutes: Mr. Doug Ayars, Chief Operating Officer, led a presentation to the Board regarding the Operations Management Oversight Presentation. Staff members provided information on the following areas:

    *Production and Maintenance
    *Transportation
    *School Choice and Magnet Programs
    *Technical and Logistical Services

    Minutes: Staff made a presentation to the Board regarding upcoming boundary changes for 2008-2009.

  4. BOARD-SUPERINTENDENT CELL PHONE POLICY
    Minutes: Staff provided the Board with an update on the Cell Phone Policy and procedures to be followed for the changeover to personal accounts for those staff members required to have a mobile phone. December 31, 2007, is the cut off date for transferring service. The Board requested that staff provide them with three months of information on number of minutes billed so they can determine the average number of minutes they use each month.
