Helpful tips and information about our First Grade Program

First Grade is an important year.  Your child will grow emotionally as well as intellectually.  He/she will develop a sense of independence and responsibility.  It is our goal to provide your child with a comfortable, supportive environment where he/she is given the opportunity to grow and learn.

As a new First Grade parent, we know that you have many concern about the grade level and our expectations for your child.  We hope that the following list will answer some of your questions.

Your child will receive an "E", "S" or "U" to indicate mastery of
communication, mathematics and social growth and development
objectives that are covered for that grading period.

Please read and sign your child's Alimacani Planner daily.
You may write all your notes in the planner.
This is a great communication tool.

Please write in your child's planner or send us a note whenever there
is a change in how your child is getting home.
Telephone calls are not acceptable.

Please put lunch or milk money in an envelope labeled with your
child's name and pin # or in a money holder.  Have a specific place
in your child's backpack where you always put notes and money.
This will make it easier for your child to find.

Homework is required Monday-Thursday and should be returned on Friday.
One of the most important things that you can do for your child is to
read to him/her every night and have them read to you!!!
This will encourage your child to enjoy books and will
improve his/her reading skills.
Please record the books your child reads to you in their Reading Log.

                                                      With great expectations
                                                      For a happy year,

                                                      The First Grade Teachers
