The No Child Left Behind/School Public Accountability Reports

          Safety tips for Parents

SAFETY TIPS ARE IMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR AND FOR YOUR STUDENTS.  HERE ARE SOME ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TIPS TO DISCUSS FOR THOSE WHO WALK TO AND FROM SCHOOL:

1: Walking in pairs OR MORE.  There is always strength in numbers!  Strangers will not approach a group of walking students like they would a student who is walking alone.

2: Walk to school at the appropriate time.  Walking at the right time ensures that there are more students on their way to school as well.  Again…strength in numbers!  If you need to get to school earlier or later, make sure someone’s taking you there.

3: If a bus rider, RIDE THE BUS.  Don’t walk from any further than you have to.

4: BE AWARE of the surroundings…don’t just walk with head down.

**If you happened to be approached by anyone, whether in car or on foot:

1: DO NOT acknowledge them!  Do not respond to “Hey, come here” or “Hey can I ask you something” or any related statement.

2:  Walk away from the area, get out of there quickly.

3: Go to NEAREST school and alert an adult immediately.  You don’t have to wait until you get to your school to feel safe!

4: Remember as much as you can:  What color was the car? What did the person look like?  Did they have an accent?  You will be asked these questions.

PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILDREN ARE SAFE ON THEIR TRAVELS TO AND FROM SCHOOL!
