  A Letter From The Principal

Rhonda Motley, Principal

Welcome back! We’re happy to have our students returning to school and a special welcome to the new students joining our family.

For those of you I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet, my name is Rhonda Motley.  I am a proud graduate of Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida.  Go Wildcats!!!          I have worked with Duval County Public Schools for sixteen years as both a teacher and administrator.  For the past two years I served as the principal of A. Philip Randolph Academies of Technology, and before that I was the vice-principal at Sandalwood High School for three years.

Our theme this year is Play Ball “Training Camp,” Reaching Excellence through Practice, Preparation and Training, based on the book “Training Camp” by Jon Gordon.  Gordon believes that: “The Ideal of the overnight success is a myth.  Just as the Olympian must train for years for one defining race, our students must wake up each day and practice, prepare, and train to be their best.  They can’t settle for mediocrity, but strive each day for excellence.  Excellence requires hard work, preparation, and hours of effort, but it is worth it.”

We want your child to be happy and successful at Baldwin Middle Senior High and believe you play a key role, which is to continually show interest and encouragement for your child’s well-being. The child who knows his or her family is interested in and supports the school program will almost always enjoy greater success.

We believe in fair and consistent discipline that encourages students to be responsible for their own actions. At school, we create a safe environment where courtesy and kindness prevail and where there is respect for differences in other people, customs and cultures through the Foundations program.

This year there is a change in school hours. School begins promptly at 7:30 a.m. and dismissal is 1:45 p.m.  It is imperative for students to arrive at school on time.  There have also been changes in transportation and school meals.  For more information you may visit www.duvalschools.org. For students participating in clubs, activities and athletics, we are providing a student study hall from 1:45 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Please share with your child’s teacher any information regarding his or her special needs that will help us better serve your family. We believe that communication among parents, students and teachers is critical in assuring student success.

I look forward to meeting each of you at Open House, September 14, 2009 at 6:30 p.m.

GO INDIANS!!!
