Dear Parents,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Brookview Elementary School website. I am looking forward to a new school year, and happy to have your child with us as we start the 2011 -2012 school year. We are very proud that Brookview has earned a grade of “A” from the State of Florida based on our students’ achievement on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. We are proud of our students and their accomplishments and our faculty and staff for their commitment to academic excellence. Although our school was graded an “A”, we did not meet the National Standards for “No Child Left Behind”. We are still working towards high standards of proficiency in all subgroups of our student population. For further data or specific information on the measurement of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for our school, please visit the website: http://schoolgrades.fldoe.org/default.asp. We look forward to our partnership with our families as we continue to improve student achievement.
Our school’s theme this year is: Brookview All S.T.A.R.S. ALL- Super Tigers Achieve Reading Success. We believe when students, parents, teachers, staff and community members work together as a team, Brookview will continue to produce star students! A big part of our academic focus this year will be on promoting reading success with our students. “Read It Forward Jax” is a district initiative that will focus on improving reading performance for students. The campaign will partner city, business, faith based, and non-profit leaders throughout the community to share in helping teach children about the importance of reading. The campaign will also provide students the tools they need to be successful in reading. Brookview along with the entire school district is challenging all of our parents to help start an epidemic of asking their children as well as others, "What are you reading?”. Discuss their reading and challenge them to READ IT FORWARD by asking three other people. We believe that reading is the key to gaining academic success. As educators we will continue our unwavering commitment to excellence in literacy and provide an outstanding learning environment for all of our students.
School hours are 8:30am-3:00pm for students and 8:30am-1:45pm on Early Dismissal Days. Please make sure all students arrive on time. Students should not arrive to school before 8:00am because there is no adult supervision available. The building will open for students at 8:00am. Parents in need of daycare before that time are asked to contact the Extended Day Office. A drop-in fee for Extended Day will be charged for early arrivals in the mornings and late pick-ups in the afternoons. Please remember students may not be checked out of school after 2:20 pm.
I would also like to encourage you to join our Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The $5.00 membership fee will serve the children of Brookview in a variety of ways. Please check the PTA bulletin board for current events. Thanks in advance for your support of our PTA.
I invite you to join our team of Brookview ALL S.T.A.R.S. to try to make a difference for our students, our school and our community. I invite you to lend your talents, time and your heart to the work we must accomplish this year. Thank you for your support of our school. If we may assist you in any way, please give us a call or come by the office. Please feel free to visit and volunteer!
Sincerely,
Violet E. Stovall,
Principal, Brookview Elementary
