Fourth Grade ELA

"The secret of education is respecting the pupil."

                                                                         Ralph Waldo Emerson

I was born and raised in West Lafayette, Indiana.  I spent my school holidays going with my grandmother to her second grade classroom in a small rural town in Ohio.  Once I hit those hardwood floors and saw those small smiling faces, I knew my calling was to be a teacher. After graduating from the Indiana University, Purdue, I was hired by Duval County and moved to sunny Florida!

This will be my twenty-third year teaching in Duval County. I have taught at several different schools, but nothing compares to the ten years I have taught at Chets Creek.  Chets Creek is my second home. I have had the good fortune of teaching grades one through five, but my niche seems to be the fourth grade.

My husband Jim and I have a beautiful daughter, who will be in the seventh grade.  We have one dog Maggy, a cairn terrier, a fish named Mickey, and an adopted stray cat Snowflake.  We live near Fernandina Beach, FL.  I enjoy spending my time teaching, spending time with family and friends, reading and traveling.  My passion in the classroom is teaching reading and writing.  My goal is to instill a love for literacy in all the children I touch.
