My name is Kathryn Ferro Nelson. I have been
married to my husband Bill Nelson for 16 years and
I have two children. Both of my children attended Chets Creek from
kindergarten through fifth grade
and now attend Kernan Middle School and Mandarin High School.
I call South Carolina my home although I have moved around a lot because
of my father’s military jobs.
I lived
in South Carolina for about 18 years. I have lived in
Jacksonville for almost 11 years.
I have been a member of the Chets Creek family for eight years. I first
became involved when I was
hired as a first grade paraprofessional. I then transitioned into an
administrative position as CRT.
However, it was the time that I spent working with a particular first
grader that peeked my interest in
working with students but in a different capacity. I decided that I
wanted to do something to assure
that children were being “placed” in the appropriate learning
environment. I enrolled in graduate school
and earned my Masters Degree in School Psychology. However, I did not
pursue a career as a
School Psychologist but choose to become a part of the Chets Creek family
in a new position. I began
my teaching career as a fifth grade teacher and am currently a 3rd
grade math, science and social studies
teacher.
