Standardized Dress Code

Who: All students in Kindergarten to Fifth Grade  Cedar Hills has adopted a standardized dress code for all students beginning with the 2011-2012 school year.  Based on survey results showing 85% of parents in favor of uniforms, the Shared Decision Making Committee voted unanimously to approve the dress code.

What: Uniforms:  All students are required to wear the following styles/colors of clothing to school:

  1. Pants, skirts, shorts and jumpers in navy blue or khaki.  (Blue jeans are not allowed.) All pants must be secured at the waist with a belt.
  2. Collared polo or button down shirts in navy blue, white or red. All shirts must be solid in color, have sleeves and be tucked into bottom garment.

Garment Length:

  1. For students in grades 3-5, all shorts, skirts and jumpers must be no more than 5 inches above the top of the knee.
  2. All boys must have quarter length or longer sleeves.

Shoes:

  1. For safety reasons, we strongly encourage students to wear sneakers.
  2. All shoes must be secured to the foot.  Shoes must be closed toe and have a strap on the back.
  3. Shoes with skates or a heel over 1 inch high are not allowed.

When: The standardized dress code will be enforced each day.  There will be a two week grace period for new students.  Shared Decision will plan special days during the school year such as college day, sports day, etc.

Why: Many parents have reported reduced clothing expenses, fewer arguments with students over clothing, less competition with peers for name brand clothing, improved academic performance, improved student appearance, improved student behavior, and improved school spirit after the institution of uniforms or dress codes.

All students have 2 weeks after entering school to be in compliance with the school uniform policy.  However, if a student cannot participate due to religious reasons, there will be one opportunity at the beginning of the school year or within two weeks of entry to CHE for parents to apply for "religious exemption".
