Principal's Message

Dear Students and Parents:

How quickly school opening has come and gone. We value opportunities for parents and community members to join us in our school improvement efforts.  We now have a parent/community resource room, a place where we can meet and address your children’s needs monthly. Parent Liaison, Danita Reed, will coordinate parent activities and community support. Copies of our school improvement plan, parent involvement plan, and parent compact are available for your review and your input in our resource room.

We are excited about our community support! We have been awarded a neighborhood grant through the Full Service Program, funded by United Way (more than $4,000). The funds will be used to pay tutors to work with our students in math in an after school program that will begin October. Ask our parent liaison about family support services through the Full Services Program, especially Blast, an 8 week family program that awards a $100.00 gift card upon completion of the program.

Student engagement in leadership and character building activities are important parts of the educational experience. Students in grades 2-5 will participate in our new student council. The election process will mock the national election process and give us an opportunity to teach the democratic process. The election and the installation will be held in October.

Other exciting student activities include Writer’s Tea hosted by retired principal, Karen Backilman; the principal’s monthly citizenship honor ceremony for a boy and a girl in each class; and, student patrols. What a great job they are doing supporting our safety efforts.

Our staff is exceptional, and we will honor them monthly. We congratulate Ms. Tripp, Media Specialist, Teacher of the Month, and our Pre kindergarten staff; Ms. Vereen, Ms. Bouie, Ms. Bevel, and Ms. Jones. They have been chosen by the principal for their exceptional work in supporting student achievement.

Come visit and work with us in the classroom, at lunch, during special activities, or in our resource room. We are partners in education!

LaVerne S. Hamilton, Principal
