Built on the former West Meadows Golf Course owned by the Caruso family, the school's street was named for the donor of the land, Sam Caruso. Plans are underway for building a new middle and high school on the land as well. The need for the school was based on the rapid new development in the area, and to ease overcrowding of the existing two neighborhood elementary schools. Chaffee Trail was started as a prototype for future schools in the county through the "Schools of the Future" initiative, incorporating Apple technology throughout instruction via the use of podcasts, iphoto, garage band, and other Apple products for student projects. Extended Day is offered for both morning and afternoons. Monthly rates and times are: Children have a snack time, homework time, recess, and other age-appropriate activities. Please contact Ms. Nichols or Ms. Reier for more information or to be placed on the waiting list. Chaffee Trail Elementary counts on reliable 5th grade students to help with morning arrivals, afternoon dismissals, flag raising ceremonies, and as leaders of the school. Read on to find out how to become part of this important team! Students, I know you have seen our school safety patrols in the hallways and some of them open your car door for you in the morning and afternoon. Have you ever wondered how you get picked to be a patrol? First you need to make all As in conduct. Second, you need to make all As and Bs in all subjects on your report card with an allowance of two Cs per nine weeks. You are not allowed to be late for school. If you are tardy a lot, you won't be considered. You can't be absent a lot, either. You have an important job to do and there are not extra patrols to take your place when you are absent. We have a lot of fun and in June if you raise enough money, you get to go to Washington DC for 5 days! I hope something you have learned about being a patrol will make you try extra hard to become a patrol!- Mrs. Sciullo, patrol mom Chaffee Trail Elementary benefits from a large and active PTA. All families are encouraged to participate in school activities and fundraisers put on by PTA. Fundraisers include cookie-dough sales, Spirit Nights at Chick-Fil-A, Bono's Bar B Que, and Adventure Landing, and holiday gift sales. PTA also assists in daily volunteering in the classrooms, library, and front office. They are a vibrant and integral part of our school! Link to PTA page coming soon! PTA Board: The responsibility of the School Advisory Council is to provide parents, citizens, faculty, staff, and students an opportunity to participate in the development of educational priorities, assessment of a school's needs, and identification of local resources. The functions of SAC are primarily to assist in the preparation and evaluation of the school improvement plan and to assist in the preparation of the school budget. Chaffee Trail's SAC meets every third Thursday of the month at 5:30 PM. Under Sunshine Law, all SAC meetings are open to the public, and all parents and community members are encouraged to come.
