Crown Point School makes every effort to meet the needs of each child.  One way we do this is to use information we compile from various tests we give during the year - both teacher made and standardized.  We follow  district procedure in giving the following:

Fall Stanford Diagnostic Reading Test (SDRT) for second through fifth in the fall.
Winter Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test (FCAT) for grades third through fifth. FCAT Writing for Fourth.   FCAT Reading and Math for third through fifth. FCAT Science for fifth.  This test meets Florida state accountability requirements.

Parents can help their children be successful in taking tests.  Discuss with your child the importance of doing their best on a test.  Weekly tests can be prepared for by parent and child reviewing and then orally quizzing the child.  Spelling tests usually requires weekly study of the words at home.

Report Cards

Report cards will be issued at the end of each nine weeks.  The listed standardized numerical grading scale was approved by the Duval County School Board.

The grading scale for students Grades 2-5th in a regular program shall be as follows:

A 90-100
B 80-89
C 70-79
D 60-69
F 59 - And Below

Kindergarten and First Grades receive S-Satisfactory and NS-Not Satisfactory.

*Teachers may use plus or minus symbols as part of this grading system with the letter grades in reporting to parents.
Scholarship warnings will be sent at the mid-point of each grading period for students who are in danger of receiving an unsatisfactory grade at the end of the nine weeks.
Report cards are but one way of informing you of your child's progress.  We encourage you to know your child's teacher and to keep informed about the many aspects of growth.  Report cards should be signed by the parent and returned to school the next day.

Homework

Homework may be assigned as a supplement to learning tasks accomplished during the normal school day.  Completing the homework on time and returning it to school is part of the learning process and is a responsibility of the student.
It is then a part of the teacher's responsibility to follow up on assigned homework to see that it is completed properly.  Homework may include drill and practice, research, gathering materials for projects, reading from magazines, newspapers or library books as well as assignments from the adopted text.  All homework should be done by the student with assistance given as needed.  Parents are urged to check homework before it is returned.
