Transportation

All Students will either walk, ride the bus, or be conveyed by auto.

For Safety reasons, students will not ride bicycles.

Walking Students

All students who walk are expected to follow approved routes.  Pedestrians walk on the left side of the street.  Students are encouraged to walk with a friend to and from school.  Rides should never be accepted from strangers.

Car Riding Students

Cars coming through the front driveway should always move as far down as there is room within the designated lane.  Students should wait until their car is driven as far down the driveway as there is room.  Please do not come to the front walk and take your child out through the traffic to your car.  Use the designated pedestrian crosswalk only, please.  Cars not in drop-off/pick-up lane should be parked in a designated parking space when bringing and picking up students.

Buses

There are supervisors for arriving and departing buses at school.  When the bus leaves the school the authority for supervision is delegated to the bus driver.  We are pledged to cooperate to provide safe transportation for your children.  Upon written referral from the bus driver the school will communicate with the student's parents so that we may work together to improve the child's behavior.  Repeated referrals will result in suspension from the school bus.  Suspension from the school bus does not excuse a student from attending school:  it becomes the parent's responsibility to provide transportation for the student so that he/she may be present in school, as required by law.  If a first offense constitutes a major hazard, no warning need be given: the principal may suspend the student immediately.
Inappropriate behavior as a school bus passenger or violation of the school bus rules by students will result in the following action:

1st Offense Warning, parent contact
2nd Offense Mandatory parent conference and a minimum of a three day bus suspension
3rd Offense Bus suspension of five to ten days and parent contact
4th Offense Expulsion from the bus for the remainder of the school year and a parent contact

Dismissal

Students must leave the building immediately after dismissal.  A written note from parents giving permission for after-school visits with classmates is required.
Students are encouraged to walk with a friend to and from school.   Rides should never be accepted from strangers.

Early Dismissal

No Child is permitted to leave the school grounds after he/she arrives at school.  If it is necessary for a student to leave during the day, he/she must be signed out in the office.   Teachers may not release children directly from the class.  Students will be contacted by the office staff as parents sign them out.  We encourage you to make routine dental and medical appointments at times that will not require absence from school.
If parents request another adult to pick up their child, the school must have a written note with date, time, and name of the adult picking up the student.   Persons picking up children to leave school during the day will be asked to show their driver's license to office personnel as proof of identification.  This procedure is for your child's safety.

Rainy or Cold Days

Parents and children together should establish a rainy day procedure, since our school phone cannot accommodate children who want to use the phone on these days.
