School Advisory Council
The purpose of the school advisory council is to provide parents, citizens, faculty, staff, and students an opportunity to participate in the development of educational priorities, assessment of a school’s needs, and identification of local resources.

Edward H. White High School School Advisory Council (SAC) Meeting Minutes

Agenda:
I. Welcome given by Ms. Terry Boatman, Assistant Principal; Discussed handouts: School Advisory Council Handbook; School Improvement Plan for 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 for parents to review; Slight overview of the handbook. Dr. Perry indicated that several parents inquired about meeting at a later time. Our next meeting will be held on November 1, 2011 at 6:00 pm. II. Election of Officers: SAC Chair – Ms. Reshonda Tillman, Vice Chair – Ms. Antoinette Duggins, Secretary – Ms. Veronica Josey III. SAC Budget update: Beginning balance: $25,916.11 minus student id badge materials $4,280.40 leaving $21,635.71. IV. SAC Goals and Objectives: a. Change meeting time to a later time to accommodate parent work schedules b. Increase Parental involvement throughout the school (via tutors, mentors, etc.) c. Put the grade portal information on the Marquee as well as the school website for parents to visit d. Update the SAC information on the school website e. Do more to celebrate those students who were successful for academic achievement f. Focus on building student moral g. Parents asked questions regarding graduation rate: Mrs. Boatman will secure that information for our next meeting. h. Parents would like for us to host parent nights by learning communities to learn more from the teachers how to assist their students at home and conference with their child’s teacher, etc. i. Dr. Perry discussed our Data wall and the upcoming state visit (October 10 – 13, 2011) and solicited parent participation for interviews. j. Dr. Perry informed parents of our budget crisis and how we are in the process of leveling our classes to ensure we meet class size amendment. k. Parents discussed teachers and updating the grade portal more frequently. Many parents expressed that they use the grade portal information to make decisions about whether their children can participate in extra-curricular activities and/or go to the football games. l. Dr. Perry gave the parents the actual class count for our school. We actually have 1858 students and we were projected to have 1927. m. Ms. Josey asked Dr. Perry about his experience so far as being a new principal to Duval County Public Schools. n. Ms. Amos inquired about our ESE population and those students who have IEPs and will need to take the FCAT. Ms. Boatman is preparing that information for our next meeting. V. Concerns / Questions a. Parents would like to have our SAC meetings advertised with more notice to let parents know what’s going on and to get them involved. VI. Adjournment – We adjourned the meeting at 5:31 pm.
