What do I need to enroll my student in First Coast High School?
DUVAL COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS FINANCIAL AID NIGHTS 2007-2008 SCHEDULE
The Duval County Public Schools high schools listed below host a financial aid night for their students and parents prior to the Winter Break. A financial aid officer from a local college or university presents each session. The focus of each session will be the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Parents and students are invited to participate in any of the sessions listed below. If you are unable to attend the session at the school your student attends, please feel free to attend any of the sessions.
Federal law requires the U.S. Department of Education to ensure that students can apply for federal aid without paying a fee, and to be considered for most of the federal student aid programs (such as Federal Pell Grants, Federal Direct Stafford Loans, and Federal Stafford Loans), a student must complete and submit the FAFSA. This application (available in English and Spanish) collects financial and other information used to calculate the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which postsecondary schools use to determine the student’s eligibility for aid.
Even though a student may not submit a 2008-2009 FAFSA for processing before January 1, 2008 or after June 30, 2008, some colleges and universities have limited institutional funds which are awarded on a “first-come, first-served” basis to eligible students. Therefore, it is important for students and parents to receive the information BEFORE the deadlines and submit the FAFSA as early as possible – on or after January 1, 2008.
Students will be able to obtain a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or by visiting www.edpubs.org. New for 2008-2009 is a PDF version of the FAFSA that students can submit for processing. Beginning in mid-November the PDF will be available for download on www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov. Students can access the PDF, complete the form on the computer or by hand, and mail it to the address provided for processing. Schools will also be able to access the PDF from www.FSAPubs.org.
Students are encouraged to use the online method for filing the application. The FAFSA on the Web Worksheet, the most effective tool students can use to facilitate the online application, will be provided to each senior at his/her high school during the school’s BEACON program and in the school’s guidance office. Check with the school for the worksheet.
