Welcome parents, students, and supporters of Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology. It is my privilege to lead such a fine group of educators in a partnership to provide Peterson students with a unique and rewarding educational experience.
The simplest definition of technology is not a computer. Technology is anything that enhances the human experience. That’s a guiding mission at Peterson: to enhance the lives of our students and, for them, in turn, to change the world.
Our campus is big – and so are our dreams and plans for the 2011-2012 school year. Peterson has become somewhat of a celebrity on the Academies circuit, winning state and national awards in a variety of programs from Child Care to automotive innovations. This year, we will be reviewed for the Model Academies by the National Career Academies Coalition. We are constantly reaching for the next level.
This is a school where hands-on career-building experiences are constructed around academics. We take apart airplanes, rebuild car brakes, create computer animation, and bake soufflés. Our cosmetology program is first rate, allowing students and patrons to experience the beauty of creating a satisfied customer. Future business owners are learning how to communicate, market, and perfect their craft at Peterson.
Students at Peterson are literally writing their own futures. By crafting inspirational – and humorous – videos about FCAT preparation, our students have access to high-tech programming and recording operations that many college-level students don’t see until they reach their internships.
A direct line of communication between the faculty and parents is the not-so-secret ingredient to our success. The expectation is that each student here will maximize every day available to gain the advantages that Peterson can offer. As a magnet school, students who attend Peterson are provided with faculty members who model the importance of work ethic in the classroom and in the shop, coupled with innovation in ideas and in practice.
We welcome your input, your enthusiasm, and your support to help all Peterson students reach the highest levels.
