Fall

  • Prepare application packages for college or technical school. Review deadlines and requirements, such as test scores, high school transcripts, essays and recommendations. Give teachers, employers, counselors or other adults at least a month to complete recommendation forms.

  • Gather information to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

  • Attend Financial Aid workshops

  • Apply for Bright Futures and other state scholarships (No scholarship will be awarded unless an application is completed)

www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org

  • Search for colleges, use your college list to track deadlines, and apply online at collegeboard.com/collegesearch

  • Check Financial Aid web sites

  • Take/retake the SAT or ACT if needed

  • Send SAT scores online to meet college deadlines

  • Apply for housing if you plan to live on campus

  • Listen to PA for senior announcements

  • Study hard and attend after-school tutoring (if needed)

  • Keep a record of progress reports and report cards

Spring

  • After January 1, but before the earliest college deadline, file the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov

  • Schedule an appointment to meet with counselor if grades are unsatisfactory or for other inquiries or concerns

  • Explore college majors at collegeboard.com/majors

  • Provide guidance counselors with request for mid-year senior grades, if required by a college or university

  • Wait for college admissions decisions and financial aid awards letters. You need to decide the college best meeting your personal academic goals and financial needs. Many schools have an early May deadline to accept or decline offers of admission. Some may require a deposit to reserve a space in the freshmen class.

  • Work with guidance counselor to find universities with openings if your top choices are not available.

  • Send thank you notes or letters to anyone assisting you during the admissions process.

  • Study: AP Exams are fast approaching in May
