It is so exciting to be a kindergarten student at Gregory Drive! Our students have lots of fun, but they learn a lot too. We expect our students to read, write and count by the end of the year. One of the most important things parents can do to help is to read to their child every night. This will promote a love of reading and develop reading skills. We look forward to seeing our students grow and learn. Kindergarten Teachers

We would like to welcome you and your child to the first grade. First grade is filled with exciting adventures in reading, writing and math. We would like to encourage you to have your child do his/her homework with minimal help from you. This will help reinforce vocabulary and comprehension skills in reading and writing. One of the most important things you can do is read with your child every night. Try to make this an enjoyable time with your child. It will reinforce the reading skills your child is learning each day and, you will be promoting a love of learning all first graders seem to share. We have great expectations for this year. We are reaching high to meet the standards! First Grade Teachers

Welcome to second grade! Our emphasis is on reading. You will best help your child by reading to him/her every night. This is the year when the students begin to read chapter books. Encourage your child's comprehension by asking him/her questions about their reading. In math, second graders will be involved with problem solving and mathematical thinking. It is our goal that every child feel successful this year! Second Grade Teachers

Welcome to third grade, the year where the rubber meets the road! In third grade students begin the intermediate grades and they are expected to not just know the answers, but explain how they got them. In math, science, reading, and writing students are expected to think critically and to tell how their work meets the standards. Parents and guardians can help by reading to/with their children daily, making sure they do their homework every night, helping them to develop good work habits and talk with them about their day at school. These can all have a great impact on your child's education if done on a regular basis. ( Children in third grade need to be reading chapter books! ) " A school system without parents at it's foundation is just like a bucket with a hole in it." Jesse Jackson Third Grade Teachers

Fifth Grade is a challenging and busy year as we prepare for the Reading, Math, and Science FCAT and work toward meeting the Duval County Performance Standards. Parents/guardians have an opportunity to participate in their child's educational development by encouraging the use of the FCAT Explorer and reading daily with their child.
