AKA Akademy: Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. provides tutoring in reading for selected students weekly. AmeriCorps Duval Reads: AmeriCorps members provide reading tutoring services to students in grades K-3. Members also participate in community events to promote, encourage, and support family and adult literacy. The goal of the program is to increase reading skills of students through individual and small group reading tutoring. Bigs in School Program: Provides one-on-one mentoring to students for one hour, once a week, during the school year. Mentors are matched with students through common interests. The children selected to participate in the Bigs in Schools program have been identified as being "at risk" for academic failure. Also, children in the Extended Day Program are provided with mentors. Book Club: The Book Club is sponsored by the Honorable Audrey Gibson, House of Representatives, to promote reading in schools. Cathedral Arts Dance Project: Free afterschool dance classes for girls twice a week with a grand finale at the end of the year. Fast ForWord: Students in grades one through five participate in Fast ForWord to help strengthen their reading skills. The students will go for thirty minutes a day from four to twelve weeks or until they complete the product. Fast ForWord teacher will communicate with the classroom teachers on the progress of students. Eagle Esquire Club for Young Men: A program designed for mentoring the young men in our school. Extended Day Academic Enrichment: Extended Day personnel provide homework assistance and academic enrichment to students in before and after school care. Extended School Year/Summer Reading School: Duval County provides a district summer reading program for all third through fifth grade students who did not score a Level 2 or higher on the FCAT Reading test. First and Second grade students who scored in the intensive range on the DIBELS assessment and ESOL students receive extensive reading instruction, also through Summer Reading School. Supplemental Educational Services (SES): Students who qualify for free and/or reduced lunch are provided opportunities to receive free tutoring services from outside agencies coordinated through the Title I Office. A variety of private education services are made available for parents to choose from.
